Project Description: You have been invited on an scientific expedition which covers the area from Central Texas (Dallas) to Northern California (San Francisco). During your journey, you will be asked to record and document your travels. You will be also asked to make hypothetical judgements to explain why specific areas are colder or warmer in temperature; as well as why certain areas have greater populations than other areas. |

Activity 1: Create groups of 4-5 students per group. Have each group reasearch and find maps on the United States. Have students find specific maps on the states between the areas of Texas and California Note: The trek from Dallas to San Francisco must be made in a straight line direction |
.Activity 2: From the maps that you and your team have secured, create a list of survival items that you will need for this trek. Be prepared to explain why you have choosen these items. Additionally, plot out the directions that you will be traveling. | Activity 3: Create a multi entry journal that for each state that you and your team visit. Include information about the geography, plant life, animal life, and climate of these areas. Use the internet,text, or a CD encyclopedia for your research. |
| Activity 4: Using Kidpix Studio or another illustrating type program generate computer artwork which depicts the area between Dallas and San Francisco. Use these pictures in a slideshow. You may include photos downloaded or scanned from other resources as well as journal entries made for this project. be prepared to explain why the weather is so vastly different from the other areas that you have visited. | Activity 5: Create a lsit of questions for your fellow students based on information that you have found out to be true about the areas you have visited during your trek. Include questions related to the temperature and population of the major areas involved. Share these questions with the other groups in your class. | Activity 6: Create a large scale poster board display combining graphics, journal entries and any other information that you have learned from this assignment. |
